THE ARTISTS OF THE FREE FIGURATION
AD GALERIE, in its contemporary space, presents and defends Free Figuration, a French artistic movement born in the early 1980s bringing together Robert Combas, Hervé Di Rosa, François Boisrond and Rémi Blanchard. Free figuration is an extension of artists and historical movements whose specificity has been the openness to marginalized forms of expression. It was born from popular culture.
Free Figuration artists have, through their works, taken the “freedom” to “figure” all forms of art without boundaries of cultural genre and geographical origin, without hierarchy of values between high and low culture. The works are often animated, always colorful, non-academic.
It is a provocative, energetic painting made of freedoms which speaks of society, violence, sexuality, the suffering of people, their little joys, their smallness, their greatness…
