Little by little, his figuration evolves towards the absurd, facetiousness and humor, building a kind of theater on whose stage a man in motion is frolicking, seeking his place in the world. Señor Gustavo, a dark character in a suit, wearing a hat and crossing the paintings like a double of the artist, is always present in his work. Segui's man conjures up death, he takes his existence seriously. Full of vitality, he hides under the costumes that dress him a part of dream.
He paints expressionist and satirical canvases that allude to the political and sociological history of Latin America. Above all, Antonio Segui evokes the tragedy of the human condition.
Antonio Segui uses charcoal, pastel, pencil or pen. Against a backdrop of urban unrest, he creates a colorful and graphic world that seems to emerge from the world of comics.
The painter constantly reinvents his popular theater by exploring all the possibilities of color, composition and drawing. His paintings follow one another but do not resemble one another. Under an apparent naivety, each composition turns out to be much more complex than it seems.
Segui has humor, irony and subtlety. He admits that "there have always been constant elements in his painting, such as denunciation and provocation".
