Trained at the Beaux-Arts of Quimper, he will make a decisive meeting in his artistic choices, that of his professor Bernard Lamarche-Vadel who incited him to join Paris in 1980. The painter produced many works but unfortunately they were lost in the fire of his studio located at the time in La Villette.

He joined the "Figuration Libre" movement alongside iconic artists such as Robert Combas and Hervé di Rosa to free art from hierarchy and social conventions. Unlike the other artists of the movement who tend to practice a humorous and provocative art, Remi Blanchard draws his references from tales, myths and legends to stage colorful characters highlighted by large black outlines in a bucolic and childlike environment.
